What is NAIDOC Week?
NAIDOC Week
Australia celebrates NAIDOC Week from the first Sunday in July through the following Sunday. The National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee, or NAIDOC for short, was formerly known as the National Aborigines Day Observance Committee (NADOC). The 1938 Day of Mourning served as the inspiration for NAIDOC Week, which was expanded to a full week in 1975.
The history, culture, and accomplishments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are honored during NAIDOC Week. The week is observed not only in the communities of indigenous Australians but also in an increasing number of governmental institutions, educational institutions, local governments, and corporations.

NAIDOC Week 2023 Theme: For Our Elders
NAIDOC Week 2023
We are pleased to announce that For Our Elders will be the subject of National NAIDOC Week in 2023.
Our Elders have played a significant role in our communities and families for many generations, and they still do now.
They are guardians of cultural knowledge, pioneers, nurturers, protectors, educators, survivors, leaders, diligent workers, and our loved ones.
Our loved ones, who support us during our difficult times and rejoice with us during our happy ones. Who, when we need them, cooks us a meal to console us and discipline us.
They mentor our future generations and create the pathways that we can follow now. Guidance in daily life and how to position ourselves in the world, in addition to years of lobbying and activism.
We benefit from their expertise and knowledge in a wide range of fields, including human rights, justice, and land management. They have established the different paths we take in a variety of fields, including politics, the arts, health, and education.
Today, the struggles of our Elders aid in our progress. They fought for the equality that we still struggle for. Their perseverance and power have ensured our people's existence.
We must make sure that when it comes to future decision-making for our people, there is nothing about us - without us. This is due to their impact and their learnings.
We honor and show tribute to the Elders who have died and those who are still standing up for us in all of our Nations.
